A very nice trend for bathroom remodel projects is what we are now calling steam showers.
Once upon a time they were called steam baths and you went to some form of public bath (a spa, the local gym, etc) to have access to one.
Now you can have one built into your shower stall.
They’re great as nothing helps you feel as clean as a steam shower before your water shower. Absolutely nothing. This is why sauna’s have been so popular with people in Scandinavia as well as Native American’s.
When you’re planning to have one installed in your bathroom, understand it has to be installed correctly and if done wrong, the steam (over time) with cause damage.
The consideration is to keep the steam encapsulated in the shower and not allow any to escape beyond the shower.
Your contractor achieves this by doing a proper installation using the proper vapor barriers at the appropriate layers of construction.
Although you can’t see it, somewhere near the shower stall is a steam generator that creates the steam.
That is the basic operation:
- A vapor/moisture tight area where the steam is released into.
- A steam generator that generates the steam.
- Controls in the shower to operate the steam generator.
- A dedicated circuit.
Sounds simple, but make sure whatever contractor installs it knows what they’re doing.
