Colors, patterns, styles, etc all have an effect on how large (or small) a room looks and feels.
When your home in or near the greater San Jose metro area needs a new bathroom, you want to incorporate some of these ideas, as you’ll be living with the finished outcome for years to come.
Get stuff off the floor. Install a counter, sink, and even toilet that walls mounts and does not touch the floor.
Use stripes that go up and down.
If the room is long and narrow, use some form of a striped pattern on the floor that runs in the direction you wish to seem longer. This can be done using rectangular floor tiles, bamboo (if you want wood in your bathroom, only use bamboo – it is naturally water resistant), or vinyl.
If the room is fairly square, use larger square floor tiles (12 inch, not 6 inch).
Take the idea of “earth tones” fairly literally. When we stand on a darker floor (tan, brown, green, etc), have lighter walls (blue, light tan, etc), and have a white ceiling, it mimics the color scheme of standing outside. Although we are not consciously aware of it, this color scheme causes us to feel the room we are in is larger.
