There are a few simple tricks you can use to make your bathroom feel wider.
Stripes can be wall paper, paint, but can also be rectangular tiles, such as is shown in the picture.
If you want to create the feeling that a room is wider than it is, then run the rectangular tiles only on the walls you wish to be perceived as wider.
On the other walls, install squares that are ideally the size of the long side of the rectangular tiles.
You can achieve a similar effect with flooring, either tile, or wood.
Just run the “planks” in the direction you wish to feel wider.
A strategically placed mirror, placed on one wall but against another, in a proper size, helps create the illusion the room is larger than it is.
On the wall that you wish to feel farther away, you can play with the minds perception of foreground and background.
You can paint the wall a dark color, then place very small light but recognizable objects in it, such as light coming through doorways that are off in the distance.
Alternatively, you can paint the wall a lighter color, then place very small images of very large objects, such as birds, trees, and even mountains.
As the mind knows that very small images of large objects means they are far away, it gives the room the feeling of being larger.
