On the spectrum of finishes, Satin is where you can start to easily see the sheen, or reflectiveness of the paint.
Satin finishes have a bit of glare, but a very little bit.
They do not show every little imperfection in your walls and are easy to clean.
Satin finishes are very usable through your entire house, but is especially practical in your bathroom.
They comes in both a latex or an oil based paint.
The only disadvantage I can think of right now is sometimes when you touch up with a satin paint, you can see evidence of the touch up.
A touch up of satin paint does not blend as well with the old paint as does paint with an eggshell finish.
