The lead article (the table of contents if you will) is titled Bathroom Remodeling.
This article is also part of a mini-series of articles about bathroom flooring.
There are many advantages to vinyl tiles:
- they are easy to install
- if one is damaged it can be replaced without having to replace the entire floor
- vinyl is very water resistant
But…. not all vinyl tile is a good choice for your bathroom.
Your bathroom is the wettest room in your home, and whatever flooring you install should stand up to standing water.
The very thin vinyl tiles you might buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot for $0.88 ea on sale are so easy to install anyone can do it, but the seams don’t necessarily seal as tight as is needed for a bathroom.
Remember the tiles are being installed on a fiberboard or particle board underlayment, and when either fiberboard or particle board gets wet it swells.
However there are very high quality vinyl tiles that are maybe 3/8 of an in thick, which install with the manufacturers required adhesive and siliconized “grout” (it’s not really grout but it serves the same purpose) that are perfectly suited for bathrooms.
The silicon “grout” fully seals the seams between the tiles and creates a water tight barrier between the top of the flooring and the bottom.
So if vinyl tiles are your choice for your bathroom, it is not the place to try to save money.
Inexpensive vinyl tile today mean a major water damage repair a few years down the road.
And speaking of your bathroom remodeling….. we would love an opportunity to be of service to you.
