The colors and patterns you choose for your bathroom design matters.
It make sense to put the greatest effort into the “anchor”stuff which is the tub/shower surround and tile flooring.
This is the stuff that is the most expensive to change when in the future you decide you wish to change the decor.
The other stuff in the bathroom is easier to change and can be thought of as “accessorizing” the major or anchor items.
You definitely want to put thought into your shower trim, your plumbing fixtures (sink, faucets, toilet), your light fixture, and your paint, but down the road if you decide you wish to change one or more of them, it’s relatively cheap and easy (by comparison).
For that reason, it is best for you to spend the most time on your main or anchor items, and only when you’ve finalized your selection of those materials, do you finalize the selection of your accessory items (which by definition is everything else).
This way, when you decide in the future a change of decor is needed, updating your bathroom will be much cheaper and much easier, as the main items will not need to be torn out.
