Of course the title is somewhat misleading. You don’t really make a room larger by changing the color scheme.
The colors that make a room feel smaller are also the colors that make a room feel warmer (yellow, orange, and violet) while the colors that make a room feel larger are also the colors that make a room feel cooler (blue and violet).
These concepts are the same no matter what is done in that color, the anchor items (tub/shower surround and tile flooring) as well as the items that “accessorize” or “accent“ the room, up to and including paint.
Having said that, the effect can be significant. It’s amazing what a difference a change of color makes.
If you wish to experiment with this idea before you tear out your bathroom, do a simple paint job on the walls and and ceiling as it is, and see how it feels. Then try on another color.
This may seem a bit excessive, but compared to the cost and effort of the overall remodel, it’s pretty insignificant, and if it will influence your choice of floor tiling, its a very small price to pay. Deciding you want different color floor tiles is not cheat.
