Selecting Kitchen Appliances
Of course the appliances you select must match both the style and decor of the kitchen you are having installed, as well as how you and your family uses your kitchen, but I wish to suggest another criteria for how you make your decisions and that ease of cleaning.
For which I will suggest there are two main considerations:
- Smoothness vs nooks and crannies
- Dark vs light
Smooth vs Not
I personally prefer cooking over a gas range as the temperature of the gas can be adjusted more finely, but…..
Gas range tops mean burners with covers and grills, none of which are horrendously difficult to clean, but if you check out the newest fast on fast off electric rangers with the fully smooth surfaces, you’ll find they are getting much closer to the fast on, fast off, and quick temperature changes you can get with natural gas and are they ever easy to keep clean. A picture of one is below.
Dark vs Light
Trust me on this one. If you go with a more standard natural gas range top, do not get white grills. It is impossible to keep them white. Been there, done that. Darker colors are easier to keep clean.
You won’t have use of your kitchen for a while
For some or all of your kitchen remodel, you won’t have a kitchen. Even something as simple as making a cup of tea can present a challenge. You will need a contingency plan for the time.
Eat every meal out? Use a hot plate? Microwave everything?
My point is not to wait until this decision is suddenly forced upon you, but rather to plan for it in advance.
