Green Granite Counters with Dark and Light Brown
This featured kitchen demonstrates what can be done by effectively blending green and brown.
The darkest color forms the “background” against which the other colors are perceived and in this kitchen it’s the dark brown of the cabinets. The contrast between the cabinets and the very large floor tiles of various shades of brown some of which verge on a light green creates a very pleasing effect.
The stainless steel appliances are well chosen as dark would be too much with those cabinets, and white would be too much of a color contrast.
The green marble countertops and the greenish brown tiles on the wall behind the range top bridge the “color gap” between the darkness of the floor and the lightness of the flooring and the light walls, which are a color somewhere between brown and green.
The brown oil rubbed bronze pendant light fixtures create a nice tie in to the dark of the cabinets, providing a bit of spacial separation for a splash of the same dark color.
This works because the relationship between green and brown is such that they compliment each other well. These shades are close enough together yet far enough apart to create a pleasing effect.
There is also an abundance of ambient lighting which helps accentuate both the similarities and the differences between the green of the countertops and the wall behind the range top and the lighter brown of the walls and the exhaust hood.
Whoever designed this kitchen has an excellent eye for color coordination.
