Kitchen Remodeling Floorplan and Layout Ideas
Often, when remodeling, we limit our thinking about where things can go because that is where the plumbing or the electrical or the gas already is.
In some cases this makes sense. When changing these connections becomes prohibitively expensive, it’s not worth considering.
But…… sometimes it makes great sense.
The main point of this post is you should experiment with where things go in your remodeled kitchen as if there were no hookups in place already. If you had a clean slate to start with, would you layout your kitchen the way it is now? If not, be open to the idea of changing it.
I recommend two things when it comes to this:
1) Make an outline of your kitchen on a piece of graph paper, make cut outs of the various things you will put in your kitchen (cabinets, island, fridge, range/oven, sink, etc, etc) and literally simply try out different configuration. If you have a hard time choosing between different options, make up a few different layouts and review them over time.
This is a decision you’re going to live with for years to come, so there is no need to rush into it.
2) Consider hiring a profession interior designer. For those of you who think this is an unnecessary expense, consider that they’ve done a lot more kitchens than most of us ever will, and it’s very likely they’ve learned a few things over the years you will benefit from.
I’ve actually seen interior designer save their clients more money than they cost. Seriously.
