How involved will you be?
Are you a full DIY person? Or a full hands off person? Will you personally do any of the work yourself in an effort to reduce costs or is that simply not the best use of you and your time?
If you’re going to do any of the work yourself, define it well so there is a very clear distinction between what you will do and what your contractor will do. You both need this definition to be very clear.
Find a Designer and Contractor you can work with
By “can work with” I’m talking about the soft or subjective aspects. Do they explain things to your satisfaction? Are you happy with how they work? Although there is nothing wrong with liking your designer and your contractor, that is not what I’m talking about. You may never socialize with them, but you are going to need a solid working relationship with both your designer and your contractor.
What type of people do you work best with? Are they of that type?
