Overview of Kitchen Cabinet Construction
Cabinets are essentially boxes that are constructed in such a way that you fit them together to create a kitchen full of cabinets. The boxes need to be reinforced or held stable so they hold their box shape today and in the future.
There are two common ways of doing this. One is the corner brace which you can see in the picture to the right. A not quite triangular piece of wood is installed in each of the four corners, both top and bottom for a total of 8 of these braces per cabinet.
Another method is the beam brace that runs from front to back inside a dado slot. You can see them in the cabinet shown in the picture, they are underneath the corner braces.
