This occurred about 3 1/2 years ago, but the store is as relevant today as it was then.
Small water leaks that continue over long periods of time will cause significant damage to your home. That morning I went on an estimate, and that is the situation I encountered.
What had happened is…. At some point in the past, the shower head started spraying water back at the wall whenever someone took a shower. This is because the part of the shower head that screws onto the end of the pipe that extends through the wall cracked (it was plastic). Bear in mind what had broke was the shower head, not the pipe it connected to.
Once the shower head connector was cracked, it no longer sealed well.
At the time this was first notice, the customer could have fixed the issue for less than $20 by buying a new shower head at the hardware store and installing it in place of the broken one.
However, they did not attend to to this. They let it go.
It is now necessary to replace drywall on two sides of the shower surround. The total costs (including priming and painting) will be around $600.
So… if you find somewhere in your home there is water where there should not be, take care of it right away. This will save you money in the long term.
