Remodel Kitchens – San Jose – Faucets – Cartridge Valve
A prior post explained the different types of valve mechanisms in faucets.
This post explains the specific mechanism of a cartridge valve.
This type of faucet contains a cartridge or “valve stem” which has holes in it (think swiss cheese) through which water flows.
The holes in the valve stem correspond to similar holes in the faucet housing.
When the holes do not line up at all, the valve is fully closed.
When the holes do line up, the amount they line up determines the flow rate of the water and the mix of hot and cold water.
These types of valve systems are highly reliable.
It is also fairly easy to replace the cartridge when needed (when the seals deteriorate and the faucet starts to leak).,
