Why do you need a designer?
When embarking on your San Jose bathroom remodel, why do you need the services of a professional interior designer?
Maybe YOU don’t, but many do. The reason is they have a hard time translating abstract qualities such as “tranquil”, “peaceful”, “retreat like” into something tangible. Some people constantly feel they are missing something, but they’re not sure what.
That’s where a designer comes in. Not only do they translate these abstract concepts into tangible things for a living, they have experience in working with people who think in different ways, so they’ve gotten good at it.
What designers do
As stated above, they translate, but equally important, they edit.
What do I mean by edit? They reduce.
Good design is not about “having it all” but is a lot about eliminating options that simply do not work for you and your family, so you can focus more on the options that do.
Once you determine that you want subdued tones, the elimination of everything bright makes your choices less daunting and more manageable.
When you do something a lot, you get good at it
My guess is you’ve remodeling very few bathrooms in your life. Maybe this is your first. A professional designer has done lots. Perhaps hundreds (ask by all means).
As a result, they’ve developed skills you may start to develop as your project is coming to a close. And (even worse) they are skills you may never use again, or at last not for several years.
Expense vs Investment
It depends. Sometimes your designer knows things that save you more money than they cost you. When that happens (and it does happen) they were truly a great investment with a hard dollar ROI.
Sometimes they do reduce the overall cost of the remodeling project, but they leave you with a much better outcome than you would have on your own, so for years and years their involvement in the project pays you back in intangible ways related to enjoyment and pleasure.
Either way, a good designer is worth what they cost.
