This is a specialized skill requiring a countertop contractors who is skilled in this material. Concrete countertops can be prefabricated, cut, polished, etc in a shop, or can be created right in your home during the remodel. The latter makes sense when the shape of the countertop is unusual in some way.
Concrete is a very durable and versatile material. You can chop directly on it (although I recommend using a cutting board). You can place hot pots and pans directly on it. It’s also quite beautiful, and is available in a variety of colors and patterns. Concrete countertops do not look like concrete sidewalks. They come in various colors are highly polished and very smooth.
Concrete is porous and needs to be resealed as marble does. It is very heavy and the structure that supports it must be stronger than for other countertop materials, and it can develop thin cracks which need to be patched.
The cost will run you around $75 to $125 per square foot installed.
