The prior post discusses how to achieve good ambient light for your bathroom remodel. This post focuses on accent and task lighting.
To review, ambient lighting is the everywhere or all around lighting that is scattered (by bouncing it off walls through opaque glass) whereas accent and task lighting is focused.
The real difference between accent and task lighting is focus. Accent lighting brings focus to things. Task lighting bring focus for tasks.
The Solera Group provides expert bathroom remodeling services in the greater San Jose metro area.
When you have a special picture, or a very nice vase with plants of some sort, you highlight them with accent lighting, which is focused, not scattered.
Task lighting is similar in concept, but rather than focusing on things, you focus on where you do things, such as shave, apply make up, etc. The picture in this post shows task lighting above the mirror and vanity focused on personal grooming tasks.
What Makes the Best Task Lighting
I’m partial to small halogen bulbs and I prefer small fixtures mounted in the ceiling although wall mount or ceiling mounts works as well.
If you want the ability to reconfigure the accent or task lighting over time, you want bathroom track lighting. Now before you are offended by the very idea understand you can now buy very small halogen bathroom track light fixtures that are downright elegant. Please see the image below.
The huge advantage of this form of track lighting is your ability to point them where you need them. Once fixture can highly the plant in the corner, the toilet area (we need good light to read by), the tub where you shave your legs, etc. Halogen bulb track lights are very practical for bathrooms.
