How do you best select a contractor for your Santa Clara bathroom remodel?
Vet them against a set of defined criteria.
Of course verify they have an active contractors license and the required insurance, but know there are contractors out there with an active license and insurance you DO NOT want doing your remodel.
Alternatively there are some high quality contractors who have just gone out on their own and are recently licensed whom you DO want doing your remodel.
If the license and insurance is not enough, what is?
Check their references
For reasons I never understand, most people who ask for references do not check them.
When you’re contracting for any service, the absolute best reference is someone you personally know used them and loved them. The next best situation is when they provide references who come across and raving fans.
How do you effectively check references?
You ask the right questions of each reference and compare their responses to what you need.
1) What work did the contractor do for you?
When you’re hiring someone to remodel your Santa Clara bathroom, you want someone who has done bathrooms and preferably in the local area and as such is familiar with the local building department and permitting system.
It’s not enough that their reference be happy with the work they did. Is it the same or similar to the work you’re looking for?
2) Did you have a clear understanding of the scope and details of the work?
The answer better be yes and they better be able to elaborate at some length. One of the worst things that can happen in a remodel is the homeowner and the contractor suddenly discover they are working with different ideas of the scope and the details.
