One of the goals of remodeling your small Palo Alto bathroom is to create a new bathroom that has the feeling of being larger.
There are various tricks (and I use that word intentionally as they are all optical illusions) you can use.
The trick described in this post is not the cheapest, but is incredibly effective.
In smaller bathrooms, the tub is generally at the back of the room, where the length of the tub runs across the back wall.
Can you live without a tub in this bathroom? Do you have a tub elsewhere in the home?
When you give up your tub, and install a wall to wall walk in shower, your room feels larger because the visual obstruction of the tub has been replaced with a shower curb, that is only 5 inches tall.
To obtain the maximum effect, you must use transparent shower door glass so the visual obstructions are the curb and the back wall. If it is possible to install a window in the back wall of the shower, this will further enhance the effect as natural light also helps room feels more spacious.
This difference this makes is enormous.
