This post is one in a series on remodeling small bathrooms and part of a sub-series on how to evaluate and select your contractor. For either of the lead posts, please select one of the links in the prior sentence.
This task is about both your ability and your right to know who will be doing your various remodeling work tasks.
The Solera Group provides expert bathroom remodeling services in the greater San Jose metro area.
You need to know whoever does the work is experienced at that type of work. The person who does the plumbing has recent experience. The person who does the tile has recent experience. The person doing the electrical has recent experience. Etc, etc.
This does not preclude all the above people from being the same person. It’s not uncommon for someone to be very versatile in the various trades and be expert at various and different types of tasks.
The main thing is that you know.
This is also a means to help you select your contractor. No contractor should hesitate when you ask them for a list of workers, whether those workers are employees of the contractor or sub-contractors.
Any contractor who either fails to answer that question, or answers that question in a way that feels evasive to you, is probably someone you do not want to work with.
This is a very reasonable question, and any contractor who appears to not want to answer has a reason for doing so, and those reasons are never good. Perhaps they’re not yet sure. Perhaps they have an answer but don’t like it. Either way, consider using someone who gladly answers this question.
