This short series of posts is about bathroom lighting. I had thought it might make sense to talk about types and styles of fixtures, but upon reflection I think what most the most sense is to talk about uses of light (ambient, area, task, etc) and various way to achieve desired results.
We need different types of light for different purposes even withing a bathroom.
As a result this short series of posts is organized as described below. For more information of any one subject please select one of the links below.
Ambient lighting is general area lighting and the overall level of brightness or dimness in an area. This needs to be appropriate for the time of day and task at hand.
Accent lighting is for focusing attention on specific things (storage areas, plants, pictures, etc)
Task lighting is for performing specific tasks, which for your bathroom mostly means your personal grooming.
Types of bulbs discusses the relative advantages and disadvantages of incandescent bulbs, LEDs, halogen, etc and which ones make sense for what type of light.
Dimmers may make sense in multiple places in your bathroom and their use in those various areas are discussed in this post.
