Pedestal sinks are where the sink sits on top a pedestal and there is no vanity of cabinet of any kind.
They are excellent for small bathrooms where you want less stuff taking up space. They have a slim sleek design.
Some people do not like them because the plumbing is exposed, as you can see in the image in the top right.
The ability to see the plumbing can be minimized by getting a wider pedestal. See the image below.
And some come with a towel bar attachment which I personally feel is the height of practicality. That is exactly where I want my towels to hang.
Is a Pedestal Sink right for you?
If you are remodeling a small bathroom, they make sense precisely because there is no vanity.
However if the exposed plumbing is an issue for you, an alternate solution for a small bathroom is the wall mount vanity and sink which still hides the plumbing from view while at the same time keeping the floor clear, which gives the impression the room is larger than it actually is.
