Pros
- Lightweight
- Inexpensive
- Comes in many sizes, shapes, styles, colors, etc.
- Durable
- Non porous
- Easy to clean
- Fairly easy to repair
- Overall maintenance requirements are very low
Cons
- More expensive than fiberglass
- Will scratch if someone uses an abrasive cleaner (so don’t)
How they’re made
Acrylic tubs are made of vacuum formed acrylic sheets that are reinforced with fiberglass. As a result they are light weight and easy to install.
Conclusion
It’s hard to go wrong with an acrylic tub, and if you want something really special (color, size, shape, etc) it’s probably available via special order (which also means pricey).
Unless you have a specific need for cast iron (and please don’t) or stainless steel, you can surely find an acrylic bathtub to suit your needs.
