This post is part of a series about bathroom remodeling as well part of a sub-series about bathroom flooring options. To access either of the lead posts please select one of the links below.
Of all the flooring choices you have for your bathroom; Bamboo (engineered wood), vinyl, slate, marble, etc, etc what is perhaps the single most common choice is bathroom flooring of ceramic tiles.
Probably because they’re a high end cost effective (as in cheaper) solution that is durable, versatile, and beautiful.
Cost effective compared to what?
Compared to engineered wood (Bamboo), natural stone (travertine, slate, marble, granite), and pretty much everything except sheet vinyl.
- Relatively inexpensive
- Relatively maintenance free (only the grout lines need to be periodically resealed).
- Comes in a vast variety of colors and patterns.
- Comes with a wide variety of trim options: different colors, trim pieces, decorative tiles, etc.
- Fairly easy to fix (if one tile breaks it can be replaced).
- Easy to keep clean
The only disadvantage I can think of of ceramic tile is not fully maintenance free. While the tile surfaces do not need to be sealed and periodically resealed (unlike natural stone) the grout lines do.
When you’re looking for a high end cost effective solution, ceramic tile is for you.
