This post is one in a series on remodeling small bathrooms and part of a sub-series on how to evaluate and select your contractor. For either of the lead posts, please select one of the links in the prior sentence.
This post discusses the importance of RECENT experience on the part of whoever is doing your work.
The Solera Group provides expert bathroom remodeling services in the greater San Jose metro area.
We’ve all learned some of what we know through on the job training, but for your remodel it’s important the people doing your work have already learned on other people’s projects.
This is independent of whoever is doing the work.
The person doing the plumbing should have recent plumbing experience. The person doing the tiling should have recent tiling experience. Etc, etc.
How can you know? Ask!
Do not in any way feel shy about asking whoever is providing day to day supervision for a list of who will be doing work in your home, and what their relationship is to the license holder.
- Is it the license holder?
- Is it employees of the license holder?
- Is it sub contractors hired by the license holder?
You have a need for top quality work, and you have a right to know who is doing the work and that they’re experienced in their respective areas.
If when shopping for a contractor you ask this question and do not get an answer or get an answer the feels evasive, this is a red flag. You should probably consider passing on that contractor and finding someone else.
