This post is one in a series on remodeling small bathrooms. As well as one within the sub-series on your options for bathroom remodeling materials. As well as one devoted to the differences and qualities of paint. To access any of the lead posts, please select one of the links in the prior sentences.
Maybe the post title is a bit too strong, but as the eggshell paint sheen is less durable and less moisture resistant than satin, semi gloss, or high gloss, it is strongly recommended that you NOT use eggshell to paint your bathroom.
The Solera Group provides expert bathroom remodeling services in the greater San Jose metro area.
- High traffic areas
- Areas requiring more frequent cleaning
- Very moist areas
For that reason, paint that does not stand up to heavy touching, frequent cleaning, and paint that absorbs moisture is strongly advised AGAINST using in your bathroom.
For your bathroom, the recommendation is you use one of :
- High gloss: Greatest durability and moisture resistance
- Semi gloss: A step down from high gloss
- Sating: The least glossy sheen recommended for bathrooms
I can not emphasize this next point strongly enough……. The greatest enemy of our wood framed and drywall surfaced homes is small amounts of water left standing for long periods of time.
You may not think the paint matters, but paint that absorbs water (satin and flat) encourage the retention of moisture, which is not a problem in your living room, but is a problem waiting to happen when you use it in your bathroom
