Bathroom Remodeling: Good Ideas (con’t)
Do not skimp on your shower
I know the picture on the right is not a shower for a small bathroom, but it’s an excellent example of splurging on the shower.
Your shower is the central theme of your newly remodeled bathroom. If there are things you really want (such as a second shower head, or in shower lighting, or a bench, or a really big rain style shower head) now is the time to do it.
The bathroom is being fully torn up anyway and the incremental cost of adding your splurge is small in the overall scheme of things and you’re going to live with your new shower for years and years.
So now is the time.

Look for water conserving fixtures
In some case the cost of a low flow shower head, water conserving faucet, or water conserving toilet will cost less, but worse case it will cost a little more. As stated above you are going to live with your new bathroom for years to come, and that is years for you to save money on your water bill.
Leave LOTS of counter space
Never underestimate how much counter space one bathroom needs. Although it is true that no matter how much space you have you always find a way to fill it, when the space you have is simply not enough, it’s frustrating to be constantly moving things in and out of their storage areas. Can you increase your counter space by installing a low profile toilet and running a counter above it? If you’re building a two person bathroom do you really need a second sink or can you share the sink and use more counter space? The answer is generally yes, you can.
