Functional and Economical Small Kitchen Remodel
There is nothing shabby about this functional and economical kitchen remodel. This family received an excellent kitchen without breaking the bank.
The layout is pretty standard for a California ranch style house, with entrances and exists at each end. There is a large pantry at one end next to two sections of countertops, one being the bar.
It’s not uncommon for Mom or Dad to provide homework guidance and supervision while preparing dinner and this layout enables that. Park the kids at the bar and if one finishes early, they can help with dinner.
The dominant color of this kitchen is oak. A similar shade is used or both the flooring and the cabinets. The countertops are a speckled granite that is mostly white, providing a nice contrast to the darker oak.
The dark grey back splash walls also provides a nice contrast to the stainless steel appliances, the undermount stainless steel sink, and the brushed nickel faucet.
The white of the ceiling and the walls above the upper cabinets helps create a feeling of the room being taller.
It’s not uncommon when remodeling a kitchen on a budget to feel a regret about some feature you might feel you should have done (I once didn’t want to run wiring to have lights inside my closet, but that was the time to do it, now it’s more work), and for this kitchen the one upgrade that might have made sense is under counter lighting to provide task lighting for the countertops against the walls. As we age that focused task lighting comes in handy.
Does this featured kitchen give you ideas for your upcoming kitchen remodel?
