Replacing tile during your small bathroom renovation can give the room a spacious and luxurious feeling. Tile comes in many colors and price ranges, so you should be able to find a tile that you love that meets your budget.
Many people mistakenly believe that they can’t use tile in a small bathroom, or that it only works with small mosaic tiles. In reality, mid-to large size tiles are perfectly appropriate and may even make your bathroom feel more spacious. Just stay away from tiles that are so large that you can’t arrange them in a pleasing pattern or that the tile will require extensive cutting to fit.
When selecting tile, you will want to pick a tile that is an appropriate grade for the purpose. Tile that is meant for walls will not stand up well if used on a floor, especially in high traffic areas.
Many tile patterns come in coordinating wall and floor groupings. By selecting coordinating tile, you will give the room a cohesive appearance without looking drab. The last thing you want is to make your bathroom look institutional or like a locker room. Daltile and Florida Tile both feature coordinating wall and tile floor groupings, as do many other brands.
It’s tempting to pick trendy colors or patterns when selecting tile, but unless you’re sure you’ll still love the color and style in 10 or 20 years, it may be better to stick with something more classic during your small bathroom renovation. Outdated tile can reduce the resale value of your home if potential buyers perceive that the room will require extensive updating.
